When the Bomb Drops is a short first-year HKU film directed by Jason Soares Aguiar. We follow Mats, a 23-year-old who works at an app/website design company. Mats has a difficult boss, Jeffrey, who asks him at the last minute to come up with a design today. Mats had promised his girlfriend to leave early, but this puts him in a bind between his deadline and a promise. Will Mats use AI for this, or does he risk losing his replacement? Mats is in conflict with AI that proves it can do better.

Jeffrey is completely immersed in the AI bubble; he follows all developments, and he is a master at persuading people, from employees to customers—gaslighting is his skill. He has a company that develops apps and website designs.
