About me
Hello, I’m Omar. I began learning the practical side of film production in 2018 in Turkey. I was learning the basics at Gate of Sun, an artistic production company. They supported short films, with projects funded by the BFI (British Film Institute).
After gaining experience in cinematography and lighting, I worked as a casting director on the film *Nezouh*.
That was my first real experience.
Also during 2018, I was learning the trade whilst working as an assistant cameraman on short films and documentaries. The film won several awards, including the Audience Award at the Venice International Film Festival
We also worked in the news sector in February 2023; during the earthquake in Turkey, I was filming reports and selling them to news channels, and I also worked as a fixer.
Since arriving in the Netherlands, I have not been able to work due to issues with my personal documentation. However, I now have another opportunity and would like to further develop my experience in this field.
