About me
Janina Pigaht (1982) was born in Germany, but grew up in England, Egypt and Norway until she moved to the Netherlands in 2001. In 2007 and 2010 she graduated cum laude in two master's programs: Film Studies and Gender Studies at Utrecht University. During that time she also worked as a camera and production assistant for a series at Animal Planet in South Africa and founded her own film production company before deciding to become a full-time documentary director. In 2010 she made her first film Delfts Blauw meets Hijab, about Dutch women who convert to Islam, during her studies. In 2011 she developed the documentary Dagboeken van een Olifant, about her grandfather's SS past, during the IDFA Mediafonds Workshop. This film premiered at IDFA in 2012 and won the award for best debut at the Netherlands Film Festival in 2013. She is currently an artist-in-residence at the Centre for the Humanities at Utrecht University and is currently filming her next film, 'The Argonauts'.
