Renger Koning is an award-winning composer with a background in visual arts. He initially studied sculpture at art school before discovering that his true medium was music. Renger’s work is known for its emotive blend of acoustic instruments, electronic textures, and memorable melodies, creating scores that are both atmospheric and deeply human. Since 2016, Renger has been nominated three times for a Buma Award for Most Original Score, winning twice. He prefers to become involved from the script stage, allowing the music to grow organically alongside the story so that, by the time editing begins, there’s already a rich palette of musical ideas ready to shape the film’s emotional arc. Quote: “Everything Renger does has something unique about it. He allows chaos and randomness into his process, and that makes his music truly special.” — Director Hugo Keijzer on working with Renger Koning for The Occupant
