Gregory Willems was born in Jette (Belgium) in 1990. He began playing the trumpet at the age of six and later also studied the piano.
His early trumpet lessons were with Rik Ghesquière. Aged 14, he went to study with Leo Wouters at the Lemmensinstituut Kunsthumaniora. He also attended solfège, polyphony, composition, orchestral and choir conducting classes. At the Conservatorium of Brussels he continued his study in composition and conducting.
Gregory Willems is currently Music Director of the Koninklijke Harmonie St-Cecilia Asse and has previously worked as a conductor with various other orchestras and ensembles.
He is active as a teacher at the music school "Mierennest" in Dworp.
Willems has tried to embrace and taste as many musical styles as possible - working together with composers to première new pieces, playing together with Jazz and pop musicians, musical theatre, orchestra, chamber music.
He has had the possibility to meet, play and study with musicians as among others: Jan Van der Roost,
Richard Egarr, Edmond Saveniers, Justin Freer, Clara Sanabras, Eva Vanduren, ...
