My name is Anna Gemmeke, I am 23 years old.
I just graduated from the HBO Film program at the HKU (University of the Arts).
Telling stories and conveying certain feelings through images is something I love to do.
Especially when it is in collaboration with a crew that has the same vision.
About myself I can say that I am curious, determined, open, helpful, creative and eager to learn.
As a cinematographer I am attracted to melancholic, nostalgic, mysterious, dark images, sometimes with a nuance of absurdism and surrealism.
In this I often look for details that make the story and the world in which the film is set more alive and tangible.
I'm also fascinated by the unknown and unpredictable. This can quickly make a film feel intangible and mysterious.
I've always been an observant person. This allows me to often predict how certain situations will play out and recognize people's patterns of movement. This is one of the reasons I find it fascinating to play with the unpredictable and the unknown in the emotional, deep-seated dynamics between characters.
This creates friction and tension.
People who get in each other's way and in their own way, but who also cannot really do without each other.
All these aspects are feelings/concepts that we as humans find difficult to express in words, but which can be translated and conveyed in images.
