Rens van Meegen studied cultural anthropology at the University of Utrecht. He then studied film directing at the Hogeschool Sint Lukas in Brussels. Since then he has worked as a freelance filmmaker for various corporate clients. Since 2006 he has been coordinator of the European Foundation Joris Ivens, a foundation that manages the archive of the filmmaker Joris Ivens. Since 2011 he is a film teacher at the School for Film.
In addition to these activities, Rens van Meegen realizes his own productions. Since 2009 he has focused on making film poems: films that follow the content, aesthetics or form of a poem. These films are screened internationally at festivals. Rens van Meegen is also the initiator of the cinepoem competition held during Go Short, International Short Film Festival Nijmegen.
