Saskia was born in Rotterdam in 1968 but grew up mainly in Eindhoven. From an early age she was interested in the world around her and she was always busy observing people. In 1996 she graduated from the Academy for Visual Arts in the direction of audiovisual design. She was nominated during her graduation for the incentive prize of Tilburg with her short film "to fade away". This film was shown in the film museum in Amsterdam and was shown on VPRO. In 1998 she received the starting stipend. Saskia Holtjer is actually an audiovisual designer. She photographs and films. These two disciplines alternate in her career. A great social involvement is expressed in both mediums. She has an insightful view of interpersonal relationships and knows how to portray this in a clear and unbiased way. She worked for various clients and on her own work for years. In 2000 they coached young people in filming their own lives in a deprived neighborhood in Eindhoven. In 2006 she made the documentary "poppen die huilen" for the graduation project of Vida Berhouz, a portrait of seven teenage mothers. The film was shown for 3 weeks in the film house plazafutura. They also coached teenage mothers in making a photo project called "zoals ik het zie" via the lumens group. She let the girls look at their daily activities in a different way and this resulted in a photo exhibition. In 2007 she was asked by the English band the 925's to make a video clip. The clip was eventually shown for weeks on TMF because it was the most viewed clip online on their site. In the winter of 2008 Saskia had the open air photo exhibition 'The summer we played outside'. The special thing about this exhibition was that the 29 portraits were exhibited in the place where they were created. The photos were hung outside in a park on the trees. The exhibition was opened by alderman Marriete Mittendorf at her own request. In 2011 she was the initiator of the project dialogue and diversity in images and the project was made possible by the municipality of Eindhoven. She portrayed 100 different nationalities who lived in Eindhoven in the place they had a connection with and these were depicted on 162 banners hung throughout the city centre during the week of dialogue. At the same time, there were 40 documentary photos by Saskia Holtjer hanging in the Abben Museum, taken of these same people but in their daily lives. In 2012 Saskia Holtjer made the film together with Vida Berhouz "floating for a moment".
