I am looking for crew for the short film BETWEEN GLANCES (Dutch fiction-drama)! (Short term)
Filming period around June 1-7

We will be filming the film over approximately three days. It would be helpful if you already have some experience, so that we can shoot the film more easily.

Story: In the film, we follow the journey of the main character, Omar. He has recently arrived in the Netherlands and is trying to find his way in bustling Amsterdam. On his way to school, he encounters many people, yet he makes genuine contact with no one. This film explores the intersection of digitalization, social cohesion, and integration in contemporary society. To what extent is simple interaction still possible in a time of isolation?

The film was commissioned by my Creative Business program, which is collaborating with NPO 3 Lab this semester. I am in my second year and will be directing for the first time. With this assignment, NPO 3 Lab, in collaboration with the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, encourages young makers to have a short film developed, written, and produced within a short period.

The aim of the film is to make people reflect on how the digitalization of our society influences the integration process of newcomers in the Netherlands. Generally, they fall outside the bubble, not only offline but also online. The story is not tragic, but shows the strength of the character Omar, who refuses to be defined by current society. He goes through daily life with ease without a phone. Who are the real victims of the current system? And what can we learn from Omar?

Job requirements / profile
Almost all departments are still incomplete. For this film, I am directing and partially producing. I am looking for crew who would enjoy contributing to a film with a social message and where you also get the space to experiment. :)

Good to know:
- Style
BETWEEN GLANCES will be an intimate film with close-ups and wide shots. You get a nostalgic feeling at the beginning, but as soon as Omar (the main character) moves from the football field to the subway network, the atmosphere changes to cool. There is room for your own interpretation! Furthermore, I prefer to keep the shots simple due to time constraints.
- Time
The period in which the film is roughly set is around early September. Zara's clothing can be reasonably edgy. Omar's is more basic and leans towards sporty.
- Sound
There is virtually little to no dialogue. For sound, it is good to capture the ambient sounds well. The first scene will take place at a football field, where the ball is kicked, children laugh and run. The rest will be filmed on the subway or ferry. The city sounds are significant for this film.
- Casting
This is not necessary!
