ECHO is a short film about a mother who suddenly hears that her fourteen-year-old son is in a coma.
after alcohol and drug use. While she clings to the image of who he was, she becomes
confronted with the question of who he really is and what she might have missed.

With ECHO, we focus on young people and their parents/guardians. We will distribute the film at film festivals, and we are also in discussions with various organizations where the film will be used locally through screenings and guest lectures with schools and partners, stimulating interaction and dialogue between young people, parents, and professionals.

With the film, we explore the thin line between parental responsibility and powerlessness. By asking whether this could have been prevented, we blur the concept of guilt. The film is thus intended as a conversation starter regarding substance use, peer pressure, and communication between young people and parents.

Description
For the film, we are looking for the following actors:

Julius (11-15 years)
Julius is an enthusiastic, smart, and social boy. He adapts easily and moves effortlessly between different groups. He appears sweet and trustworthy, but beneath the surface lurks a great deal of insecurity. His father left the family when he was young, and due to epileptic seizures, he missed out on a carefree childhood. Now that he is free from that, he wants to prove how fun and well-liked he is. As a result, he gets carried away easily and is reluctant to say no, with fatal consequences when things go wrong.


Saskia (40/50 years):
Saskia is Elsje's best friend and stands immediately by her side when Elsje ends up in the hospital following the news about Julius. While Elsje is overwhelmed by emotions, Saskia views the situation with more distance and level-headedness. She has a more lighthearted nature, but precisely because of that, she is an important support.

Marianne, nurse (40-50 years)
Marianne has a direct, work-oriented attitude. She is emotionally intelligent and understands people flawlessly, but consciously maintains a professional distance from her patients. That distance is her protection: it allows her to keep a grip on situations without losing herself in them.
