Our botanical garden, Hortus Alkmaar, is celebrating its 15th anniversary in September. A wonderful opportunity to capture this story. We are therefore looking for a (graduate) Documentary intern to film our Hortus Alkmaar story.

• Exclusive access: Full cooperation from the foundation and the 120 volunteers (the 'pioneers' and the new guard).
• A visual spectacle: A garden that changes colour and character with each season, including rare medicinal flora.
• A multi-layered subject: The film can focus on the human side (volunteering/solidarity), the historical side (from VSM to the Foundation), or the ecological value. There's even a possibility to tell the story of the first Hortus Alkmaar in 1723. The Apotheker's Medal is in the Municipal Museum Alkmaar.

For our 15th anniversary in September 2026, we're looking for a (final year) student (Documentary) who wants to capture the human side of Hortus Alkmaar. A story about 120 volunteers, 15 years of tireless dedication, and the largest collection of medicinal plants in the Netherlands.
The Story: When VSM moved to Germany in 2011, a unique piece of Alkmaar's heritage was at risk of being lost. But the pioneers didn't give up. With the help of hundreds of private individuals, they purchased the land and established an independent foundation. From VSM's commercial production garden to the largest collection of medicinal plants in the Netherlands, saved by passion and citizen initiative.
Today, Hortus Alkmaar is a versatile place:
• History: Former VSM employees who still remember exactly how the garden worked as a production location.
• Future: Young volunteers who share the passion for biodiversity and education.
• Dynamics: From the meticulous 'seed cleaning' and the deep botanical knowledge to the hustle and bustle of weddings in the Kascaf? and the hospitality of the team.
• Solidarity: Every volunteer contributes; from volunteer coordinator to manager.
