At Submarine, we devise and produce ambitious international animation, documentary, and live-action films and series. We do this for streamers like Amazon Prime and Netflix, as well as for Dutch and international broadcasters such as VPRO, AVROTROS, ZDF, ARTE, and Channel 4. Based in Amsterdam, Submarine is one of the largest film production companies in the Netherlands. Our talented and renowned filmmakers explore the boundaries of the moving image. Several new projects are currently in development and production. Therefore, we are looking for a research and production intern to join the team for at least five months.

We're looking for an intern with broad interests, an affinity for documentaries, strong communication skills, drive, and a hands-on approach. You'll need to be creative and solution-oriented, resilient under pressure, flexible, proactive, and willing to take initiative. Experience in journalism and/or media studies is a plus. A good command of both English and Dutch is also essential.

Education: HBO or WO

Monthly allowance: €300 (based on a full-time internship)

Hours: 40 hours per week

Documentary – Research and Production Internship
As a research and production intern, you'll take on roles such as production assistant. This is the perfect opportunity to gain extensive experience on a wide range of projects, from grant applications and festival submissions to preparing for film shoots and post-production. You'll also be involved in a variety of tasks related to the development phase of film production. For example, you'll assist with research for documentaries in development, contribute ideas for potential new projects, and assist with grant applications. In addition to these tasks, you'll also support ongoing productions by helping with preparation for film shoots, among other things.

The work is varied and includes the following tasks:
• Support with grant applications
• Assisting with preparations for shooting days
• Support in the development of new documentary plans
• Production support
• Research activities
• Preparing the shooting and organizing and working out the shooting for editing
• Film festival entries

It's a hands-on internship where you'll learn all about documentary filmmaking, with plenty of room for your own initiatives and goals. You'll truly become part of our production team! With the help of your internship supervisor, you'll set your own learning goals for your personal and professional development. This way, you'll get the most out of your experience at Submarine.
