For our short horror/fantasy film, "Friends," we're looking for an experienced and creative art director! This will be a visually striking film with a unique atmosphere: like a gritty Russian fairy tale, shot in 4:3 Technicolor, with a strong focus on (economical) sets, costumes, and props. We'll be shooting for two days in a green screen studio.

Think of a low-budget, dark Russian answer to The Wizard of Oz (1939) — quirky, imaginative, and above all, fun to work with.

An original horror/sci-fi short, with a heavy emphasis on visual storytelling.

- The film takes place in a single location, with a few stripped-down, clever sets — think cardboard, plaster, paper marché combined with some props — and simple green screen backgrounds

- You will work with top prop makers, a costume designer and a digital designer

- On the shooting days there will be art assistants and producers present to support you.

Our previous film Una Volta was selected for Imagine, FilmQuest, and Fantasporto, among others, and with Friends we are once again aiming for a great festival run.

It's a passion project, but with the support of our cultural foundation, we do have a small budget available for art (including a small fee).

Description
- An art director with experience in film, theatre or visual storytelling.

Someone who enjoys creative construction within a low budget. (We have plenty of ideas about how to approach it, but we're certainly open to suggestions too!)

- A team player who enjoys collaborating with prop makers, costume designers, directors, DOPs, and producers.

- Available in pre-production (concept/styling) and on shooting days.

Job requirements / profile
- Develop visual style in consultation with the director and creative team.

- Smart design of atmospheric, feasible sets (in combination with green screen)

- Collaborate with the prop maker, costume department, and producers to bring the cinematic universe to life.

- Ensure consistency in style, and if necessary, arrange props or supervise their execution.
