The Story:

"Black Before My Eyes" is a film about resilience, rejection, and self-acceptance. Fien is different. Special. She lives with MCDD, a complex form of autism that sometimes overwhelms her thoughts like a storm. In the late 1990s, after a traumatic event, Fien is admitted to a youth care facility. What follows is no standard coming-of-age story; this is the raw, tender, artistic portrait of a child searching for a place in a world that doesn't always understand her. She encounters rejection and bullying. But also unexpected friendship. Through different time periods, we follow Fien's life, her struggle to be herself, to be seen, to find light in the darkness despite her "extra baggage." Sometimes poignant, sometimes moving, and sometimes with a touch of humor that makes her unique. Why this film? Because there are so many children and adults like Fien—people with brains that work differently, who don't fit the standard mold. This film gives them a face, a voice, a story. It's an ode to the outsider. A mirror for a society that still struggles with "different."

Because we're currently setting up a crowdfunding campaign (and the total amount raised is unknown), this project is unpaid in exchange for promotion. I would also be thrilled if anyone would share my campaign. Everyone who wants to help promote the crowdfunding project will receive a gift certificate, provided sufficient funds are raised. The location, date, and time of the shoot will be determined in consultation.

I urgently need actors for the trailer and filming for the following unfilled roles (these actors will also appear in the actual film):

We are still looking for actors for the following roles:

- Mark - boy with blond hair, can look angry and intimidating, tall, approx. 12-15 years old, is antisocial and hits children at school

- JELMER Boy with red hair and freckles, one of the bullies at school (about 13-17 years old)

- Extras at Fien's school and institution, four other boys. 12-17 years old.



We plan to begin official filming in early November 2025. The shoot will last 2-5 days. We'll arrange food and drinks on set.

We're looking for aspiring/student actors, both mature and child actors, who have some acting experience and are certainly talented. However, we can't offer high salaries. This is a low-budget production, but it will undoubtedly be a beautiful, artistic film. You'll naturally receive name recognition and plenty of promotion in return. Please also let us know which character you're applying for or which characters you'd like to be considered for, and we'll assign a character.
