"The Odds" is a short film of +/- 20 minutes that takes the viewer into the life of a teenage girl who grows up in poverty and is confronted with social prejudices and moral dilemmas on a daily basis. The film is a "Choose your own adventure" experience in which the viewers make decisions on behalf of the main character at crucial moments. In this way, they are made directly responsible for the course of the story and the consequences of their choices. In a society in which polarization and prejudice often prevail, "The Odds" wants to invite the audience to put aside their own assumptions and open themselves up to a different perspective.

On the surface, Willem is a cultured, intelligent man with a deep appreciation for the arts—poetry, music, photography—and a natural talent for mentorship. He is gentle, eloquent, and well-respected in literary and academic circles.

However, beneath this polished exterior lies a deeply insecure and manipulative man, still haunted by his unpopular teenage years. Willem selectively grooms admiration from the vulnerable—particularly young women from disadvantaged backgrounds, masking his intentions behind mentorship and emotional intimacy. He is calculating but never overt, making the role one that demands emotional nuance, subtle menace, and restraint.

This is a complex and psychologically rich role, not a caricature of a villain, but a deeply human portrayal of charisma, damage, and moral decay. The actor must be comfortable navigating sensitive material with integrity and depth.
