“The Severing” is an emotional story about a mother & daughter relationship that veers into the terrifying realm.

"The Severing" is a psychological horror film about a daughter named Eliza, who has been emotionally abused since childhood by her stepfather, Roy, and her mother, Claire. As a result, Eliza suffers from a psychotic depression that continues to worsen in her later life. Claire, who died in a tragic accident when Eliza was younger, is seen by Eliza as a delusion due to this psychotic depression. Her mother is imagined as the mother extra she always hoped to have. Loving, supportive and caring. However, due to her increasing psychotic depression, she increasingly imagines a terrifying entity. A human extra with demonic features, the personification of her depression. This causes Eliza to have to settle accounts with someone she loves.

What do we offer?
"The Severing" was a graduation project of which the budget is unfortunately largely gone. However, I would like to offer compensation from my own pocket, if necessary. This compensation is negotiable. We strive for a worthy end product that we can be proud of. This film will be sent to film festivals all over the world. The VFX artist will get a nice spot in the credits and on IMDB/TMDB. The film may of course also be used for the portfolio, among other things.

We are looking for a VFX artist who wants to do the VFX for "The Severing". During an early screening, professionals from the field of "The Severing" have already given very positive reactions. It is important that the VFX artist has a lot of motivation and a feeling for (horror) fiction films. We are looking for someone who can get the necessary things done well in a relatively short time. What is good to know is that the VFX were not really taken into account on set. This was only decided in post-production to be necessary for a number of shots. Of course we can discuss what the options are!

Job requirements / profile
- Experience in VFX in fiction is a big plus, but not necessarily a must.
- Good communication.
- Have the time and desire to actually work on the VFX and finish it on the given deadline.

(This is up for discussion) Here's a very global summary of the VFX:

The most important piece of VFX in my vision will be that something is created around an entity (smoke, shadows, possibly some creature design etc.) which makes it look like it just woke up from a nightmare and makes the entity even scarier. The slowly "melting away" of walls is another VFX element that I like to incorporate if the possibility is there.
