Open call voice actor
Eight voices wanted for Dérive, a screenless audio and light installation. No acting training is required; we are primarily looking for a credible, unique voice.
Who we are looking for
The TV salesman — male, 40–60 years old. A man who has sold his life to the spectacle, desperately searching for the last deal before he gets fired. Tone: manic, sales pitches, underlying vulnerability, somewhat raspy voice.
The journalist — age/gender open (25–45 years), down-to-earth, curious, turns everything into a story. Tone: sharp, slightly skeptical, energetic pace.
The woman — woman, 40–60 years old. The TV salesman's old love, mother of the child in the story. Tone: restrained, warm but wary.
The angry man — male, 30–60 years old. Abrupt, frustrated, feels the pressure of the spectacle most acutely. Tone: hoarse, restrained aggression.
SI Mr. — age/gender open. The guiding voice of the installation: sometimes directive, sometimes inviting to deviate. Tone: calm, timeless, slightly authoritarian.
SI Woman — age/gender open. Companion of SI Gentleman in the bar scene, philosophical but more relaxed. Tone: dry, amused, mild.
The hoarder — man, middle-aged or older. Collector who hides in possessions and nostalgia, vulnerable as soon as his personal life is discussed. Tone: socially awkward enthusiasm that suddenly turns into vulnerability.
The data broker — age/gender open. Enjoys chaos and surveillance technology, oblivious to what is happening around him. Tone: feigned cheerful, mildly cynical.
Some roles may be voiced by the same actor (with a little voice distortion for distinction) — do not hesitate to sign up for more than one role.
What you are going to do
Record dialogue and monologue for the installation. Allow approximately 2 hours per role (including warm-up, direction, and retakes), spread over two recording days in consultation. Direction and guidance are provided.
For whom
Amateurs are certainly welcome. More important than experience: a voice that fits and a desire to create something of their own.
Compensation
€150–200 per role (travel expenses included) for the TV salesperson, the journalist, and SI Mr. The remaining roles (the woman, the angry man, SI Woman, the hoarder, the data broker) receive €50–75 per role. By mutual agreement. Double roles count as extra compensation.
Practical
Shooting location: in consultation (Enschede), or online if you have a decent microphone.
